Before you prep your device in order to sell it or repurpose it in some way, the first thing you want to do is to backup your contacts. While there is no direct way to move contacts from iOS to Android, iCloud can help you retrieve your contacts and share them with your Google account.
The easiest way to get contacts over is using iCloud to export the contacts from your iPhone and Google to import contacts to the Android device. You will need a PC or Mac to access iCloud from the browser and export the contacts in vCard format, which can then be moved to your Android device with the help your Google account.
How to export contacts using iCloud
To get your contacts over to your Android device, you need to export them from your iOS device first. Launch a browser on your computer and navigate to iCloud.com, and log in using the credentials you use on your iPhone.
It is important to note that this process, unfortunately, does not work with Google Chrome browser. Hence you will have to try out Edge, Firefox or Safari to export your contacts from iCloud. From the main screen, navigate to “Contacts”, click on “All Contacts” on the top-left corner and select all the contacts by press Ctrl+A on PC or Command key+A on Mac.
Now click on the gear icon on the bottom-left corner of the screen, which will bring up the Settings menu. From the pop-up menu, click on “Export vCard” and all your contacts will automatically by compressed into a .vcf file and be downloaded to your computer right away.
How to import contacts to Google Contacts
With all your iPhone contacts saved to your computer in .vcf file format, it is time to import them using your Google account. From your web browser on the computer, sign into the Google account you use on your Android device. On the top-right corner, you will be able to see the Google apps drawer, so tap on it and select “Contacts”.
On the right side panel of Google Contacts, you will be able to see the option to “Import Contacts”, so tap on it and then select “Choose File” from the pop-up window. Using the file browser, locate and select the .vcf file you had earlier downloaded from your iCloud account and hit “Import”.
If there are any duplicate contacts that are saved on both the devices, you can use “Merge” option and remove the duplicates before adding the contacts from iPhone to Android.
